SHOW SUPPORT

The Honorable Connor Traut – Buena Park City Council

RE:  SUPPORT FOR 5600 BEACH BLVD RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

Dear Mayor Traut and Councilmembers:

I support the proposed residential community at 5600 Beach Blvd in Buena Park. This project represents an important investment in the future of our city and addresses one of the most pressing challenges facing North Orange County today, which is the urgent need for attainable and diverse housing options for residents at every stage of life.

The proposed development will bring 281 new medium-density homes to Buena Park, including townhomes and condominiums, as well as affordable senior housing units. The project is thoughtfully designed for first-time homebuyers, working families, empty nesters looking to downsize, and seniors seeking affordable housing within the community they already call home.

Housing opportunities for first-time buyers in Orange County have become increasingly limited due to rising home prices and low inventory. Projects like 5600 Beach Blvd help create attainable ownership opportunities that allow young professionals, families, and longtime renters to remain in Buena Park rather than being priced out of the region. At the same time, the inclusion of smaller and more manageable homes provides an ideal option for empty nesters and long-time residents who wish to downsize while remaining close to family, friends, healthcare providers, and community services.

Most importantly, this project includes affordable senior housing, which will provide a critical benefit to Buena Park and North Orange County. Buena Park has a significant and growing senior population. Approximately 14% of Buena Park residents are age 65 or older, representing more than 11,000 seniors living in the city today (US Census Bureau). Many seniors throughout North Orange County are living on fixed incomes and face increasing housing costs that make it difficult to remain in the communities where they have spent their lives.

Affordable senior housing is desperately needed in our region. Too many older adults are struggling with rising rents, limited housing availability, and the lack of appropriately designed homes that allow them to age with dignity and stability. The 5600 Beach Blvd project directly responds to this need by creating dedicated affordable housing opportunities for seniors while also placing residents near transportation, shopping, healthcare, and other essential services.

The project will also provide substantial economic and community value. The planned parks, open spaces, recreational amenities, and community gathering spaces will encourage neighborhood connectivity and enhance quality of life. The project is also expected to generate millions of dollars in development impact fees that will support local schools, parks, and public infrastructure.

This proposal transforms an aging industrial property into a vibrant residential neighborhood that aligns with the evolving needs of Buena Park residents. It is exactly the type of smart, community-oriented housing investment that North Orange County needs to support future generations while also caring for longtime residents and seniors.

Thank you for your consideration and for your continued leadership in addressing the housing needs of our community.

Sincerely,
